Why this exists
This project began with my wife. She reads at a pace I can barely keep up with — a book every two or three days — and of everything she reads, the Throne of Glass series is the one she loves most.
It was her idea that I draw a cover for each of the eight books.
So that is what I am doing: eight covers, every one drawn entirely by hand in Caran d'Ache Luminance coloured pencil, in the same fine-art practice behind my gallery work — the scenes, characters and mythical creatures of the books, built slowly, layer over layer. And one idea ties the set together: a single illustrated landscape running across all eight sprayed edges, so the complete image appears only when the books stand in order on a shelf.
